Has anyone received their acceptance emails from the neuroimaging research application? http://community.tulpa.info/thread-tulpa-neuroimaging-research-study-preliminary-search-for-study-applicants (edited)
Hey guys, most of you probably don't recognize me around here, since I tend to stick to reddit and their discord. I have some exciting news for people. Dr. Samuel Veissiere has finally gotten the go a
Avatar
Sadly, no.
Avatar
Woe is us. I should have probably put my name in the application other than my host, as he's not very active in the community.

I've not even received any email that they've even recieved the forms yet
Avatar
Thought of applying, but we don't have the time nor support to travel for it

keep panties on for now

Research takes a lot of time.
Avatar
I opt to blame pesky ethical limitations (edited)
Avatar
And it's a lot less exciting than you'd imagine.
Avatar
They're always on.
2:35 AM
I just want to travel mostly. A nice, new place to explore is always appealing.
Avatar
you can do that right now
Avatar
But no one is paying for my flight.
Avatar
no, sorry, that's just stupid, ignore that.

Avatar
bduddy #Diana# 4/6/2018 2:39 AM
well flight-paying is still an unknown
Avatar
I feel like that may have been the dealbreaker, and the people who are going to be accepted are the ones that can pay for their own flight.
Avatar
They're probably going to aim for people in Cali or as close to cali as possible as their first choice,
2:41 AM
Second choice will be people who can pay for themselves.
2:42 AM
If they still need people after that, they would start dipping into the other options-- maybe.
2:43 AM
Rather than have everyone fly out in a big convention over a single weekend or osmething, they're likely to have people come out one at a time, in a one on one FMRI scan. @Cook would be tuesday, @bduddy #Diana# would be wednesday or thursday, etc. Then they do this throughout the summer.
2:43 AM
At least that's how they'd do it at my university. (edited)
Avatar
bduddy #Diana# 4/6/2018 2:43 AM
that's what I was thinking (unfortunately :/). of course everyone still has this dream of all getting together...
Avatar
I would stay as far as I can from every host as I can.
Avatar
Why's that?
Avatar
Train tickets could be significantly less expensive, for those that have the time for it.
Avatar
Kronkle[Alyson] 4/6/2018 2:44 AM
I feel it depends on how much resources that Stanford would have to spare during time
2:44 AM
@SkyeNet lolno

I have to hide our power level.
Avatar
Kronkle[Alyson] 4/6/2018 2:44 AM
Amtrak is more expensive and slower than taking a plane
Avatar
Yeah amtrak is terrible like that.
Avatar
Oh, did they increase their prices significantly in the last year or two?
Avatar
Kronkle[Alyson] 4/6/2018 2:45 AM
It's been that way for easily a couple decades now
Avatar
I've taken it a few times; it was like $200 to go to chicago.
2:45 AM
And it took two days.
Avatar
I'm amazed that they will actually get 25 people willing to go
Avatar
The last time Skye and I went from mid-Oregon down to LA, it was quite a bit less expensive than a plane ticket.
Avatar
From the East coast.
Avatar
A train ride through the mountains sounds pleasant though, the scenic route at least
Avatar
Kronkle[Alyson] 4/6/2018 2:45 AM
@Reguile We had 130 who wanted to go
Avatar
Oh don't get me wrong, I loved the ride.
2:46 AM
But it isn't worth the time and money.
Avatar
130 who said they wanted, but dedicated enough to actually go?
Avatar
Kronkle[Alyson] 4/6/2018 2:46 AM
No, the research team wanted it narrowed to 25
Avatar
but how do you be reasonably sure that you can get them to show up, is my question
2:46 AM
my assumption from the internet is that saying you'll do X is easy, doing X is hard.
Avatar
Tell them that we bath and dress nice, and are very polite people and would certainly have a cigar with Dr. Veissiere.
Avatar
if veissiere is worth his salt, he shouldn't engage too much with you at all, I think

Partly the reason why I am nervous if we're selected. It's either going to be very lithe or very large people.

he's engaged with the community before. He knows what he's getting into.

He's helping, but he's not the one running the neuroimaging study
2:51 AM
http://stanford.academia.edu/MichaelLifshitz This is the guy running this study with help from Dr. V
Michael Lifshitz, Stanford University, Anthropology Department, Post-Doc. Studies Consciousness, Neuroscience, and Attention. I am interested in the plasticity of human consciousness. I completed my PhD in neuroscience at McGill University in

Kronkle[Alyson] 4/6/2018 2:53 AM
His resume certainly fits well for this sort of study
Avatar
After this many years I think the community would accept less if it were available, this is the first actual EEG MRI etc study that will take place.
Avatar
I am very interested to see what the results will be
2:57 AM
has .info come along at all in theorycrafting or developing tulpamancy at all?
2:57 AM
like, is there a new trend, a new thing, a new practice, a new activity?
Avatar
I am quite interested in the results as well.

It's where everything started, other than the chans. I think that's a good basis alone. As am I, Winter.

I believe the limit of substantial findings for tulpas is going to be at the level that hypnosis is capable of producing.
12:04 AM
That isn't to say that it is insubstantial, as hypnosis can result in some extremely powerful effects on those that are capable of being affected. But as far as research goes, I would probably take a look at how they research hypnosis too and get an idea of the sorts of tests and settings that can demonstrate something.
12:06 AM
Naturally it's going to be rough turning qualitative data into quantitative but that's how it goes if one wants to find something strong. Of course, brain scans are another thing, but I don't believe they are capable of producing as much knowledge as other tests past "there is a difference between these mental states" perhaps.
Avatar
bduddy #Diana# 4/7/2018 2:29 AM
I'm trying to keep my own expectations low.
2:30 AM
the study on DID that people like referencing did show a difference between that, and people pretending to be other people. However, in that case the control group was trained actors, which seems like a strange choice to me. I guess we'll see who they choose for this one, if any.

hey guys, was big into the community in 13-14 but there wasn't any research supporting the existance of tulpas - has there been any since then that would be worth giving a read?
Avatar
I plan to interview a professor that studies cognitive processes of attention and working memory and the manner in which they interact. I am curious to specifically ask her on the current theories of memory isolation – those that some of the advanced tulpa systems and DID people demonstrate – as well as the idea of fake memories as being the basis for any "background" wonderland activity
5:04 PM
sounds reasonable?
Avatar
Deleted User 4/8/2018 5:05 PM
haven't heard about memory isolation and attention/working memory, but if those are the mechanisms of how tulpa works, then great
5:05 PM
some formal research is what I am looking for, basically
5:06 PM
oh; no; it wasn't an answer to your question; sorry
5:06 PM
it was a distinct question

honestly, I'm trying to learn about this as much as possible, but there's just so much quack shit involved in it that it's getting harder and harder

sounds like the typical tulpamancy stuffs
5:09 PM
I really want to reach to some social cognition people

@Shinyuu I would be very interested to know how your talk with the professor goes

Sound like he might know something

After all tulpa are probably not safe from "monkey see monkey do"
