Tulpa Discussion / questions-and-topics / Tulpa Based Off of Fictional Characters?
Avatar
Is it normal to based your tulpas appearance (and name) on a character from a fictional piece of media? I’ve read multiple discussions about them. One of them saying that you can do so as long as they’re aware of them leaving and then I read about how it’s generally not wise to do so. I only ask since I’ve been trying to form a tulpa and have based their appearance off of a character from a show I’ve seen but I wanted my tulpa to form their own personality and not really fear being independent. I’m new to this so my apologies if I’m messing up on anything involving making a tulpa.

Tewi: The normal answer is it's fine as long as you (and they) understand your tulpa is not the actual character. Tulpas identifying too closely with their inspirations can lead to identity crises and other problems, but otherwise there are no real issues. (Our entire system, and many others in this community, are based on characters in form, name, or even personality sometimes - although tulpas grow as people and their personalities will usually deviate from exactly matching their inspirations) (edited)

Would it be fine if I show them the show they were inspired from? Not as a way for them to take their personality from but just understand where they came from? I let my tulpa know that they’re there own person and not the actual character

Tewi: I mean, yeah? We're all big Touhou fans ourselves, with varying levels of attachments to the characters we were based on. (edited)
